The analyses of the frequencies of chromosome breaks and gaps on the Stizostedion volgense G. and Alburnus alburnus L. individuals from different localities, in two consecutive years, were showed the highest values, that were above the level of "spontaneous" (under the level of 3 %) changes. The frequencies of changes in fish species Stizostedion volgense were higher than the level of the presumed critical zone (3.0 – 3.5 %) at the localities of Danube by Višnjica and Grocka, i.e. these localities had a risk of being permanent or periodical contaminated with genotoxic agents. Similar results were obtained for fish species Alburnus alburnus from the water of some of examined localities. The high levels of chromosomal changes in this fish were detected in river Kolubara by Obrenovac and of the river Sava, especially near its mouth, at the localities of Danube by Višnjica and Grocka, and in the river Tamiš by Pancevo. These localities obviously also had a risk of being permanent or periodical contaminated with genotoxic agents.
